What’s Sustainability About?

Hello and welcome to Simply Sustainable Life! I’m so happy you’re here!

I’m Alyson! A 20 year old college student who loves to love earth. Sunsets, sunrises & awe-inspiring views from rolling mountains keep me motivated to help preserve Earth’s beauty in any way that I can. That, in a nutshell, is why living sustainably is so important to me.

There are many reasons to participate in living a more intentional and sustainable life and if there’s anything I want you to get out of this blog, it’s just that. Living sustainably often has a connotation of being “granola” attached to it. Meaning, many people believe you have to be a chaco-wearing, tree hugger to partake in a sustainable lifestyle. But, I’m here to tell ya living sustainably isn’t really about that. To me, it’s living responsibly, honestly and intentionally because it’s best for me, earth and future generations. It’s about finding simple ways to adapt my daily routine, and continually striving to be a more cognizant consumer.

The EPA’s definition of sustainability is

“Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. To pursue sustainability is to create and maintain the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in productive harmony to support present and future generations.”

I think this definition pretty much sums up what the sustainability movement is about. “Productive harmony” to me looks like unified effort, and willingness to change. Change can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. And that’s what we’re all about here at Simply Sustainable Life, celebrating change, in all of its forms!
